More qualified women, but less recognized.

A study by SHL Portugal, presented at the 37th plenary session of the iGen Forum and cited by Notícias ao Minuto, reveals that young women at the beginning of their careers demonstrate greater readiness and cognitive potential, with better results in skills such as responsibility, adaptability to change, and problem-solving.

Despite this, there are still wage disparities and a significant absence of women in leadership positions, indicating that gender continues to be a differentiating factor in professional life.

Salary disparities persist.

Data from the Barometer of Pay Differences between Women and Men indicates that, in 2023, women in Portugal earned, on average, 11.1% less than men, even in similar roles.

The difference is more pronounced in sectors such as manufacturing industries and artistic activities, where the adjusted wage gap exceeds 14%.

Invisible barriers to professional advancement.

The study highlights the importance of creating structural conditions from the beginning of the career that support young women in a truly equitable path without invisible barriers to their development.

It is suggested that organizations redefine competencies, manage talent based on data, and reinforce young women's confidence and agency to promote gender equality in the professional environment.

Paths to equality

The persistence of gender inequalities in the Portuguese labor market highlights the need for more informed and fair talent development policies. Visit https://www.poupancanominuto.com/artigos/poupanca/portugal-tinha-125-de-diferenca-salarial-entre-homens-e-mulheres-em-2022 for more information.

Promote equal opportunities and eliminate invisible barriers are essential steps to ensure that the skills and qualifications of women are recognized and valued equitably.
